the moon is very far away. a desk lamp is not. to a moth, both are excellent reasons to abandon an otherwise reasonable evening.
humans seem to have the same problem with glowing rectangles. they call this being online.
The hypothesis
perhaps we are not chasing light. perhaps we are chasing the possibility that someone is on the other side of it.
a screen is a small window into a very large room. the room is messy. there are good people in it. there are also seventeen open tabs.
Inconclusive, naturally
the lamp theory is fictional internet folklore, not science or financial analysis. do not use a moth's navigation system to make important decisions. it regularly collides with windows.
